What is this test?
VLDL carries much of the blood triglyceride. The reported VLDL cholesterol is often calculated rather than directly measured and adds context to the triglyceride-rich lipoprotein pattern.
Why might it be ordered?
- As part of an expanded lipid assessment.
- To follow triglyceride-rich lipoproteins during metabolic or lipid treatment.
What sample is needed?
A blood sample is required. The laboratory chooses the correct tube and handles the sample for this test.
How should you prepare?

How should you understand the result?
