Expanded Preventive Health Panel

Explained in plain language

What does this test include?

A broad preventive panel containing a complete blood count (CBC), ESR and urinalysis with sediment; glucose, urea, creatinine and uric acid; total and direct bilirubin, total protein, albumin, AST, ALT, GGT and alkaline phosphatase; total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL and VLDL; and sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphate, magnesium and iron.

Why might it be ordered?

  • For a broad periodic health review agreed with your clinician.
  • To look at several organ systems when symptoms, a long-term condition or family history justify wider testing.

What sample is needed?

A blood sample and a fresh urine sample are required. Obtain the correct urine container and ask whether both samples should be submitted at the same visit.

How should you prepare?

Preparation depends on all tests in the panel. Confirm fasting, timing and container requirements in advance, and do not change treatment on your own.

How are the results reported?

Each component is reported separately with its own reference interval. The overall pattern is usually more useful than any isolated value.
