What does this test include?
This blood panel contains CBC, white-cell differential, CRP, glucose, D-dimer, ferritin and fibrinogen. It looks at selected inflammatory, clotting and metabolic markers; it is not a test for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Why might it be ordered?
- When a clinician wants selected blood markers during or after COVID-19.
- To follow changes in inflammation and coagulation-related markers in the appropriate clinical setting.
What sample is needed?
The panel may require one or more samples. The laboratory will confirm the material needed for every included test.
How should you prepare?
Ask whether fasting is needed because glucose is included. Do not delay urgent assessment for breathlessness, chest pain, fainting or signs of a blood clot.
How are the results reported?
Abnormal CRP, ferritin, D-dimer or fibrinogen is not specific to COVID-19 and does not diagnose a clot. Results must be interpreted with symptoms, examination and any virus testing.
