What does this test include?
A glucose profile measures blood glucose at several planned times, often in relation to meals or treatment. It shows daily variation that a single glucose value cannot capture.
Why might it be ordered?
- To investigate patterns of high or low glucose across the day.
- To help adjust diabetes management using clinician-defined collection times.
What sample is needed?
Several blood samples are taken at the exact times set by the clinician or laboratory. Ask for a written schedule before the first sample.
How should you prepare?
Follow the specified meals, fasting interval, activity and medicine schedule exactly. Do not omit insulin or diabetes tablets unless the treating clinician has explicitly told you how to manage them.
How are the results reported?
Every value must be labelled with its collection time and relationship to food or medicine. Targets are individual and differ between fasting, before-meal and after-meal measurements.
