What is this test?
This blood serology test measures IgM antibodies. It assesses an immune response rather than directly detecting Chlamydia trachomatis in urine or a swab, and it does not by itself prove a current genital infection.
Why might it be ordered?
- As an adjunct in selected complicated or prolonged clinical situations under specialist guidance.
- To assess an antibody response when a clinician has a specific question not answered by direct testing alone.
- Not as a replacement for NAAT on an appropriate anatomical specimen when current genital infection is suspected.
What sample is needed?
A blood specimen is used. If the question is current urogenital infection, ask whether a direct test on first-catch urine or an appropriate swab is required instead of or alongside serology.
How should you prepare?
Special dietary preparation is usually unnecessary. Report the possible exposure date, symptoms, pregnancy, and antibiotic treatment without changing therapy on your own.
How should you understand the result?
The report measures IgM antibodies by the method used. Reactivity indicates an immune response but does not directly find the bacterium, reliably locate infection, or justify treatment by itself.
