What does this test include?
The panel measures IgA and IgG antibodies against tissue transglutaminase. They can support the evaluation of celiac disease, an immune reaction to gluten.
Why might it be ordered?
- For persistent digestive symptoms, iron deficiency, weight loss or other findings compatible with celiac disease.
- For evaluation in a close relative with celiac disease or for follow-up after an established diagnosis.
What sample is needed?
A healthcare professional collects a venous blood sample. Depending on the method, the laboratory uses serum or plasma.
How should you prepare?
If you're already limiting or avoiding gluten, tell your doctor—this can lower antibodies. Do not reintroduce gluten on your own. Tell the laboratory about all medicines, hormone treatments, vitamins and supplements you take. Do not stop or change treatment unless your clinician tells you to. Follow any instructions about fasting and the time of collection.
How are the results reported?
A positive result supports the possibility of celiac disease, but diagnosis may require total IgA, other antibodies, and sometimes endoscopy with biopsy. A positive result means the tested antibodies were detected, but it does not establish a diagnosis on its own. A negative result does not rule out every autoimmune condition.
